Hidden Adventure Holiday Locations

An activity holiday is a great option for those who wish to do more than lounge on a beach or go shopping. The Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago offer brilliant activities for nature lovers and thrill seekers alike in a beautiful setting with great weather. These islands are close to South America and have a year round tropical climate with dry and rainy seasons, however, they do not suffer from hurricanes as other Caribbean Islands do, which makes them a great place for a holiday.

If you enjoy watersports and searching out marine life then these Caribbean Islands offer great opportunities. Scuba diving is popular here and there are some great sites where you can see the coral reefs and the occasional ship wreck, teeming with manta rays, sting rays, rainbow fish, sea turtles, octopus, sharks and lobsters. All levels of experience are catered for here, if you are an inexperienced diver you will be able to find guides to dive with you to ensure safety.

Surfing is becoming more popular here, where the hurricane swells create great waves attracting surfing enthusiasts from around the world. Other watersports include paragliding, wake boarding, wind surfing and water skiing. Equipment hire is readily available along with lessons and advice on the best places for those with more experience.

As well as sailing off the coast you can also explore the many rivers winding through the tropical rain forest by renting a kayak, either on your own or with a guide. This is a great way to see the diverse wildlife and plants in the rain forest as well as exotic birds. As the rivers flow into the seas there are lagoons and bays to be explored at your leisure. In some areas the water is clearer and you can see the marine life and coral below.

Naturally for an area rich in marine life, fishing is a popular activity here both for relaxation and competition. Tarpon, sharks, grouper and mackerel are just a few of the plentiful fish species here and you can be assured of a great catch whether you prefer to cast off from shore or charter a fishing boat.

If you prefer to stay dry, this area offers great hiking paths and mountain biking trails which can take you all over the country. Forest paths and trails can lead you to hidden waterfalls and beaches, beautiful remote villages where you can see how the locals live and work. Cycling through the forest will give you great opportunities to see the wildlife in the forest at your own pace. For the more adventurous thrill seekers there are many challenging downhill trails which offer stunning views and scenery.

If you are looking for activity weekends with great weather and stunning scenery, the areas of Trinidad and Tobago have lots to offer.
