Finding the right Adventure Holiday

For those who want adventure and thrills, Trinidad and Tobago is the perfect holiday destination. Consisting of around 24 islands off South America`s north shore, these islands account for the majority of the population and land area. The capital, Port of Spain, is in the northwest of Trinidad. Tobago lies to the northeast and is a much smaller island.

One of the most popular holiday activities in this region of the world is diving and Tobago provides opportunities in abundance. Tobago and the smaller islands offer wrecks, marine shelves and reefs with an incredible array of undersea biodiversity. The sea life includes rainbow fish, octopus, sea turtles, lobsters and sharks and waters are clear and blue. The ship The Maverick was the original ferry to run between the islands of Tobago and Trinidad and its sunken wreck is now a haven for coral and fish alike.

Another popular sport in these islands is kayaking and Trinidad`s rivers create wonderful opportunities to experience kayaking through rainforests. Renting a kayak is easy and inexpensive and they can be rented along the river banks from almost anywhere. Some rental companies even offer guides to assist with the journey. Vast arrays of exotic birds can be seen along the Godineau River. As well as rivers, Trinidad`s bays are worth exploring for their amazing sunset views.

During the dry months of the year, mountain biking is a popular activity. Bikes can be rented out and there are tours for varying skill levels. Mountain biking offers a slower and more intimate way to see the landscape which includes remote villages, beaches and waterfalls. There is an abundance of native animal and plant life too. Many of the downhill trails offer breathtaking views of the ocean.

From September to March, hurricane swells bring big waves to the islands. Surfers are quick to take advantage and this sport is becoming more and more popular. World class waves can be found at spots like Sans Souci and Salibya. Tobago`s coastline is craggy and rugged and this helps to form a variety of waves. For those who desire real adventure, memorable surfing experiences will be found in this part of the world.

Here in Trinidad and Tobago self catering is a popular way to spend a holiday. Whether you choose to holiday in the UK with a provider such as Sykes Cottages, or you decide to venture here to Trinidad and Tobago, you should be able to find accommodation to suit all budgets.
